Coloured gemstones have time and again captivated jewellery buyers, particularly those looking for vibrant yet equally enchanting alternatives to diamonds.

Available in a diverse selection of hues, sizes and shapes, coloured gems figure a lot in bold and innovative collections by today’s jewellers. Fresh and non-conventional colours are now making waves in the market, apart from the ever-popular coloured gemstone trio of rubies, sapphires and emeralds.

Luxury brand Gucci recently presented five single earrings that highlight the company's interlocking GG logo from its GG Running jewellery collection.      

The 18-karat gold earrings feature topaz stones, amethysts, sapphires and tsavorites. Pearl variants also available. The earrings are designed to be worn alone, or paired with another Gucci style, for an eclectic asymmetric elegance.

French jeweller Boucheron, for its part, is casting the spotlight on its Serpent Bohème jewellery pieces adorned with turquoises, citrines, amethysts, rhodolite garnets or lapis lazuli, among others. The collection reimagines the iconic serpent as a protective spirit and symbol of eternity.

A perennial advocate of classic designs, Gübelin Jewellery recently presented festive creations that place rubies, sapphires, tanzanite and aquamarine in the limelight.

Among the outstanding pieces in the collection were a white gold ring with a 4.15-carat sapphire centre gem and a set of platinum earrings with two sapphires from Madagascar totalling 12.11 carats. The earrings are further accentuated with diamonds that reflect the wearer’s movements. The lower setting is removable, offering two options for wearing.
