Pearl specialists are highlighting the unique appeal of pearls to the younger generation and the gems’ extraordinary status as sustainable and renewable at two panel discussions on the sidelines of Jewellery & Gem WORLD Hong Kong (JGW) 2024.
The session “Beyond Precious: Pearl Farming And Environmental Stewardship,” which takes place today at The Stage in Hall 9 of the Asia World-Expo, is set to explore the inherent sustainability of pearl farming and address the environmental challenges faced by pearl producers today. Additionally, the discussion is focusing on the importance of pearl oysters as indicators of ocean health, underscoring their role in assessing and enhancing the world’s understanding of the wellbeing of marine ecosystems.
Panellists are Hiroki Goto, general manager of Kobe Branch, K Mikimoto & Co Ltd and director of Japan Pearl Exporters’ Association; Dr. Rebecca Koss, sustainability manager of Paspaley Pearling Company Pty Ltd; Jacques Christophe Branellec, CEO of Jewelmer; and Jens Knauer PhD, aquaculture and marine conservation consultant of Autore Group. Meanwhile, Rosario Autore, founder and CEO of Autore Group; Zhan Weijian, chairman and general manager of Grace Pearl (HK) Co Ltd; Autore’s Koss and Jewelmer’s Branellec are headlining the panel discussion on September 18, “The Power Of Pearls: Sustainable Gems For A New Generation.”
To be held at the Grand Foyer of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, this session will examine how the industry can leverage the sustainability factor of pearls to differentiate them from other gemstones. Speakers will likewise delve into innovative strategies to attract a broader demographic and redefine pearl jewellery for the influential millennial consumer segment.
