Established jewellery artists will share valuable insights on their creative process and business strategies at a panel discussion on September 20, 2024 at Jewellery & Gem WORLD Hong Kong 2024.
The session, “Staying Ahead in the Evolving World of Jewellery Design,” will feature Austy Lee, founder and designer of Austy Lee Art Jewellery; Caroline Chartouni, founder and designer of Caroline C; and Nisan Ongwuthitham, founder and designer of Nisan Ong/Ong Jewelry Design Co Ltd.
Moderated by JNA Deputy Editor Bernardette Sto. Domingo, it will take place from 3pm to 4pm at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
The panellists will reveal the setbacks they faced when starting their own businesses and how they transformed these into valuable learning experiences. They will also divulge the role branding plays in their success as well as how to develop and promote their brand identity effectively. Attendees will likewise learn the practical strategies designers can employ to nurture strong relationships with suppliers, manufacturers and other industry stakeholders.

Austy Lee, Founder and Designer, Austy Lee Art Jewellery
A native of Hong Kong, Austy Lee is a high-end jewellery designer with over 20 years of experience in the industry. Renowned for his exceptional workmanship, distinctive design themes and utilisation of rare gemstones, he has garnered a reputation for his outstanding creations. Beyond his artistic prowess, Austy is driven by a passion to make a positive impact on the world through his unique and fashion-forward jewellery pieces.
In 2017, the multi-awarded designer launched his namesake jewellery brand. Embracing the theme “When Jewellery is Psychedelic Art,” Austy was inspired by psychedelic patterns, drawing influences from religion, new age concepts, graphic design and fashion. His unique style encompasses elements of industrial aesthetics, pop-punk influences, edginess, strictness, boldness, cultural references, contemporary symbolism and vibrant colours.
Caroline Chartouni, Founder and Designer, Caroline C
Caroline Chartouni’s journey as a jewellery designer exemplifies her lifelong passion for creativity. With a family legacy spanning three generations in the fashion industry, she carries forward a rich heritage of expertise in her craft. Caroline’s education in interior design and fashion design in Paris has honed her artistic flair, craftsmanship and deep admiration for the natural beauty of gemstones.
Drawing inspiration from her travels, she sources the finest-quality stones to create unique pieces, offering collectors and connoisseurs a glimpse into a world where beauty seamlessly intertwines with craftsmanship.
The multi-awarded designer is affectionately referred to as the “Queen of Paraiba” due to her love for the mesmerising neon-blue stone. However, her enchantment extends to other gems as well, including opals, tanzanites and diamonds, to name just a few.
Nisan Ongwuthitham, Founder and Designer, Nisan Ong/Ong Jewelry Design Co Ltd
Nisan Ongwuthitham is the founder and sole designer of the highly acclaimed jewellery brand, Nisan, located in Bangkok, Thailand. He is not only an art fanatic but also a devoted collector of paintings, sculptures and jewellery. It was his profound passion for art and his deep love for the subject that ultimately led him into the realm of jewellery design.
Nisan’s creative works beautifully portray a wide range of emotions and capture a sense of harmony, with each piece showcasing its own unique style. With a hands-on approach, Nisan personally crafts every collection, engaging in intensive discussions with his creative team prior to producing detailed drawings. With meticulous attention to detail, each piece is handcrafted, ensuring that every diamond and coloured gemstone is carefully selected to achieve the desired contrast and effect.
