Paraiba Tourmaline

“We can simply describe the Paraiba tourmaline as the ‘King of Tourmalines,” said Nirmal Bardiya of RMC Gems. “Rare and amazingly beautiful, the Paraiba tourmaline gets its incredible neon blue to greenish-blue colour – and its startling brilliance – from copper in combination with manganese. The value of the stones depends on their clarity and colour, with neon blue commanding premium prices.”

There are just three major sources of Paraiba tourmaline – Brazil, Mozambique and Nigeria, Bardiya continued.

“Due to the scarcity of this gemstone, it is one of the most in demand goods right now. All major brands have started using it because of its stunning colour and rarity,” he said.

Pink, Red & Blue

Gemstones in various shades of pink, red and blue are also expected to be in trend in 2021, Bardiya added.

“We are positive about coloured stones next year. Consumers are looking for coloured gemstone combinations that would match their personal styles,” he said, adding that he is seeing solid demand for rubellite, aquamarine and morganite.
