Blue, pink and yellow diamonds were the stars of highly anticipated luxury jewellery auctions this year, reflecting the extraordinary allure of fancy colour diamonds.
Headlining the roster of top-performing diamonds at auction is the 17.61-carat Bleu Royal diamond ring, which fetched more than US$44 million at Christie’s Geneva on November 7, becoming the most expensive jewel sold at auction in 2023, revealed Christie's.
The pear-shaped Bleu Royal, described as the largest internally flawless fancy vivid blue diamond to appear at auction, has entered a new private collection for the first time after 40 years.
Meanwhile, the 15.48-carat Pink Supreme diamond was snapped up for HK$83.88 million (approximately US$11 million) at Christie’s Hong Kong on November 27. The fancy intense pink internally flawless Type IlA diamond headlined Christie’s Magnificent Jewels & The Pink Supreme Autumn Auction.
Most recently, a 133.03-carat fancy vivid yellow diamond generated more than US$5.5 million at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York on December 5. The cushion modified brilliant-cut diamond of VS2 clarity grade is now the largest fancy vivid yellow diamond to ever be offered at auction, according to the company.
