A highly favoured precious metal in the jewellery trade, white gold embodies subdued elegance and pure intentions as it brings out the true splendour of diamonds, coloured gemstones and pearls.
Gold is naturally yellow so white gold is achieved by combining 75 per cent gold with other metals like nickel, zinc or palladium. The resulting alloy is then coated in rhodium to give it a gleaming, lustrous finish.
Legendary jewellery houses have relied on the mesmerising allure of white gold to highlight exceptional jewellery designs.
Cartier recently reinvented its Beautés du Monde high jewellery collection to include new necklaces and brooches. Inspired by diversity and nature in a modern world, majority of the pieces are in 18-karat white gold mixed with rubies, sapphires, opals, Paraiba tourmalines and diamonds, among other stones.
Meanwhile, Fabergé last month displayed its celebrated high jewellery collection at an exhibit in Macau titled, “A Celebration of a Colourful Era.” This also marked the opening of the jeweller’s first flagship boutique in Asia Pacific at MGM Cotai.
Among the stars of Fabergé’s bespoke creations are gemstone-studded jewellery pieces in 18-karat white gold. This includes the Fabergé Rococo purple spinel drop earrings and diamond, blue and purple sapphire bracelet as well as the Fabergé Treasures sapphire Diaghilev egg pendant.
